The location was perfect although the train line outside the bedroom meant being woken at 6am with a high speed train passing! Other than that, the nearby wildlife was a joy to hear first thing in the morning. The breakfast was good and filling although options were limited and more choice would have been nice. The decor in the hotel and our room was lovely and added to the overall ambience of the hotel as well as providing a talking point! The reception staff were very helpful and always available when needed, nothing was a bother to them which made us feel like valued guests at the hotel. Upon arrival in our room we did notice a plug charger lying on the floor behind one of the bedside cabinets as well as a crisp packet underneath the bed. When we informed the reception staff of this apologies were offered as well as the offer of giving the room another clean for us. At that point my husband and I had already settled into the room and advised reception that we would deal with the issue ourselves and didn’t require additional cleaning. It was reassuring that the staff at reception were keen to help in any way possible although it was disappointing that a hotel of this calibre had obviously not carried out thorough cleaning of the room or a quality check prior to our arrival. Parking facilities at the hotel were ideal although slightly overpriced.

Loved the location, perfect for walking to the attractions and town. Plenty of parking. Uniquely styled hotel with a dark, impressive decor. Greeted by lovely receptionists who offered to help with luggage and were very knowledgeable about the area and were always happy to assist in answering queries. We had the bunker room which I requested and was allocated so very grateful for that. Very cozy and we loved it but not one for you if you like a window or can become claustrophobic. Not a fan of wet rooms, which this room had, but it had a good hot shower, was spotlessly clean and it was my choice to book that room, so on my head be it. Breakfast was plentiful, lots of choice, all nicely presented. Lovely dining room to eat in. Waiting staff very attentive. Had an evening meal which again was very well done and very tasty and the waiting staff were great. Two menus to choose from and both had really varied dishes. My fiancé had the French onion soup which was delicious and rump steak which he said was the best he’d had in a long time. Both of us had puddings and they were lovely. We really enjoyed our stay at the Churchill. Thank you.

My husband and I were visiting from the US and we couldn't have asked for a better location to all of the shops and restaurants York had to offer. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. Our room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Our breakfast was delicious. They offered two types, a light breakfast with yogurt and fresh fruit and the heartier breakfast with eggs, bacon and toast. The grounds outside have a very inviting seating area with comfortable chairs and umbrellas and heat lamps for the cooler evenings. They offer a variety of snacks as well as some amazing wood fire piazza. We stayed three nights and thought the price we paid was very fair and would happily stay again!

A truly boutique hotel so ideal for any fan of WSC as there are several gigantic Churchillian images in public areas not forgetting a bust of WSC and a huge bottle of WSC’s favourite tipple, Pol Roger standing on the large mantelpiece in the delightful bright dining room! The hotel does even sell the bottles of its own brand of gin and vodka which would be very excellent festive gifts to any admirer of WSC! High marks for an army of very attentive staff who appear to enjoy their duties with friendly faces and ready to assist with our needs. The location of the hotel is absolutely brilliant for its close proximity to the city centre with very easy walking distance with absolutely no gradient to tackle.

Exceptional customer service from the moment we checked in which continued throughout our stay. All staff were friendly, down to earth and helpful in every aspect. Perfect location less than 10 minutes walk to York Minster. The interior decoration throughout the hotel is to a very high standard with a tasteful mix of traditional and contemporary design. We dined in the restaurant on New Years Eve and offered choice from two menus both very reasonably priced with a range of dishes to choose from. Food absolutely delicious far exceeded our expectations. We will definitely return to this little gem of a hotel.
